Welcome the newest IT girl! If you've read some of my previous blog posts, you know that I recently changed my career. After involuntarily departing from what I thought would be my lifelong career in the mental health and behavior support field, I decided to make a significant shift. Now, don't get me wrong—I still enjoy social services and plan to implement services and activities through this nonprofit. However, mama's got to make some money.

So, let's dive into what's been working! Yes, I am now an IT professional, exploring everything that IT has to offer. I've always been a risk-taker when it comes to achieving my goals, the same ambition that led me to start this mission. However, some things along this journey did not work out. As I pivot on this new journey, I'll share some of my most self-aware moments and the steps I plan to take moving forward.

DENIED or Delayed??

Over the past six months, I explored many options to hopefully work at this nonprofit full-time. I wrote competitive grant proposals and was denied twice. I also collaborated with some very qualified colleagues on extensive project proposals, only to be denied again (unfairly, but I'll leave it at that). I noticed a trend in all these attempts, and now I'm deciding to do something about it.

I trust that this nonprofit will fulfill its mission in God's timing, as He has definitely sent me people who will support and truly believe in its mission. So, I do not consider the denials an end, but a beginning to pivot towards different options. For anyone reading this, your "no" is just a "not yet." During those seasons of "no," keep working, even if it looks like starting over or going in a different direction.

So what happens next?

For the first time, I'll be honest: I don't exactly know. However, I will share what has been working in light of this new career path and the things I hope to cultivate during this chapter of my life. I plan to grow—grow my perspective on decision-making, interpersonal relationships, growing food at home, strengthening my personal bond with each of my children, and making lots of money to support myself and the desires of some of my close day one supporters.

The thing about contemplating what happens next is that you don't really get to decide because you're not there yet.

As I have learned in these moments of uncertainty, I find peace in knowing that I never stop believing in my abilities and betting on myself. I have two beautiful souls who depend on me showing up as my best self, and that is exactly what I plan on doing! #ParentPromise

How can you still get involved?

  1. I am still offering one-on-one parent coaching, development, and support. It's not always about how to parent, because being a parent encompasses more than just the "mom" title. Remember this!

  2. Additionally, I am providing soft development support for small businesses, virtual assistance, and content creation. Check out the price list here. All proceeds go towards our mission and services.

  3. Follow our social media for daily/weekly updates @parentpromise513. Like the page, share a post, and comment. I am always looking to engage in conversations with different perspectives.
